James Ronald (“Clyde”) Williamson passed away peacefully at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, AL, on January 6, 2023, after a three-year struggle with ALS – Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. He was born September 17, 1947 and was a 1967 graduate of West Blocton High School. Much of his career was spent with Gray Lumber Company in Green Pond, AL, until his retirement in 2012. Thereafter, he devotedly cared for his mother until her passing in 2018.
Clyde is survived and missed by his sister Janice Finch (Carl), brother Donald Williamson (Jean), sister Wanda Lucas (Zack) of whom he was unapologetically the favorite of each; his loving canine companion “Little Man”; and a host of nieces and nephews. During his illness, he developed a special bond with his niece Jessica, who lovingly assisted with his care. The family is forever grateful to Judy James whose helping hands surrounded Clyde with love in his last months.
Through the years, Clyde came to love Auburn football and took great delight in their successes, especially as the other family members rooted for “that other team”. His childlike faith in Jesus was genuine and he loved listening to his favorite song, “God’s Not Dead” by the Newsboys. His favorite pastimes included completing Word Search puzzles and watching westerns from years past.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Wyman and Addie Williamson, brothers, Aaron Williamson and Larry Williamson, and sister Sandra Cates.
A graveside service will be held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association of Alabama.
